It seems the fight over Kingdoms is more serious than I thought. Well for this Bugandan commentator anyways:
But probably the most dangerous aspect of Mr. Museveni’s 2 year anti Buganda campaign is his use of government resources to build anti-Buganda feelings, even hatred, among other Uganda communities….to fan hatred, which, if ignored could lead anti-Baganda genocide.
Genocide? Hmm… granted I have only been in
I think it is disgraceful when the word genocide is bandied about like it is an everyday occurrence. It is a term that should be used with the utmost sensitivity or else it does harm to the memory of those who have been victims and to their descendants.
The author continues,
[T]ens of thousands of Baganda youth who now have little else to lose are now fully committed to protecting
That sounds like a call to arms to me. Is this author trying to start a civil conflict? What happened to being a human being also, with values and morals? I think that would be something pretty big for all those youth to lose.
Then the term ‘self-determination’ starts cropping up which further proves that the use of the word genocide was extremely hasty. If you are able, as a people, to hold peaceful, uninterrupted rallies…
And the same Muganda recently attended Ttabamiruka ’08 by the hundreds and resolved that Baganda must never beg for anything from Mr. Museveni again. Sounds like a positive side to me.
…then you are not at risk, anytime soon or with the present political, social, and economic government agenda, of becoming the target of a mass government campaign “with the intent to destroy, in whole or in part, a national, ethnic, racial or religious group, as such:
- Killing members of the group
- Causing serious bodily or mental harm to members of the group
- Deliberately inflicting on the group conditions of life calculated to bring about its physical destruction in whole or in part
- Imposing measures intended to prevent births within the group
- Forcibly transferring children of the group to another group (United Nations)
